Frequently Asked Questions

Community Consultation Period is open between 5 – 30 August 2024

Why do we have strategic documents?

Councils are required to develop and adopt plans for the management of their areas.  One of these plans is the Strategic Directions 2035 which must identify the Council’s objectives for the area over a period of at least four years, whereas the Four Year Priority Action Plan sets out the medium term actions we intend to take to build towards our longer term aspirations over the next four years. The full requirements for strategic management plans are set out in Section 122 of the Local Government Act 1999 (SA).

The Strategic Directions 2035 is designed to inspire action and clearly articulate the direction of Council.  It’s a high level statement of what we want to achieve for our community in five key themes:

  • Community
  • Economy
  • Environment
  • Infrastructure
  • Government and Financial Sustainability

Council’s strategic planning framework has three levels to support Council to achieve our aspirations:

  • Long term Strategic Directions (2019-2029)
  • Four Year Priority Action Plan (2019-2022)
  • Annual (Annual Budget and Business Plan)

These plans are enabled by complementary resourcing plans and regular monitoring and reporting to both Council and our communities.

How are achievements measured?

Council is updated with reports on the actions completed towards achievement of the Strategic Directions 2035, including outcome achieved in the Annual Report each year.

What has been done so far?

Council staff have been working with Council Elected Members to identify their priorities and to share a range of data and information about the City, including challenges and opportunities for the future, to inform the aspirations and key actions in the strategic documents.

How will my input make a difference?

Your contribution may be used to shape direction of Council’s strategic documents and where reflective of wider community sentiment, incorporated into the plans. It may also be used to drive future projects or prioritise actions.

How do I provide feedback?

You can make a submission on the draft strategic documents by 5pm Friday 30 August 2024 by using the Submission Forms on the previous page.  You can either submit the form directly to Council by post or email to admin@portaugusta.sa.gov.au or with your preferred Council Elected Member.

What happens next?

Your feedback is important to us. The Port Augusta City Council staff will collate all feedback and this report will be presented to Council for consideration.

Following the consideration of feedback, it is envisaged that the Strategic Directions and Four Year Action Plan will be presented to Council for adoption before November 2024.
