breaching these road rules.

Parking in a disabled persons parking area (without displaying a permit)
Only vehicles bearing a valid Disabled Permit from the Department of Transport Energy & Infrastructure are permitted in this zone. The Permit entitles the driver to park for the maximum time as indicated on the signs. No extensions of time are permitted. Permit holders may park for 90 minutes extra or double the time whichever is the greater in time limit zones (please ensure you check the signs carefully).
Disabled Parking Permits
An application for a permit is available from Service SA to people who have permanent disabilities and this permit must be displayed at all times when parked in a Disable Permit Zone. The applicant's doctor completes the appropriate form and the permit is issued in respect to the information provided by the Doctor. There is a cost involved for this permit. Contact Service SA on 13 10 84.
The Disabled Person's symbol is displayed in car parks and means that only vehicles displaying a current disabled person's parking permit issued under Part 3D of Motor Vehicles Act 1959 and driven by or carrying the disabled person may use the parking space.
The holder of a disabled person's parking permit must comply with all parking conditions.
- Extended time only applies in time limit zones
- May park for 90 minutes extra or double the time whichever is the greater in time limit zones (please ensure you check the signs carefully)
- May not park in any other parking area eg "No Stopping" or "Bus Zone" etc
The extended time does not apply in loading zones or non-permissive zones (normal loading zone conditions apply)
Parking Control
Parking regulations are designed to improve traffic flow and ensure the safe and equitable use of roads for the benefit of all road users.
Parking illegally may seem convenient; however, it can obstruct traffic, reduce visibility, create safety hazards for pedestrians, and inconvenience other members of the community. Motorists who fail to comply with parking regulations may be issued with a Parking Expiation Notice in accordance with State legislation.
Port Augusta City Council is committed to maintaining a safe, accessible, and well-functioning road network. By parking legally and responsibly, you can help improve road safety, reduce congestion, and ensure fair access to parking spaces for everyone.
Under South Australian legislation, councils are responsible for enforcing parking controls within their areas. Parking enforcement is undertaken to promote safety, accessibility, and compliance with road rules, rather than as a source of revenue.
Council Compliance Officers regularly patrol public roads and parking areas to help ensure parking regulations are observed and to address parking behaviours that may create safety risks or inconvenience the community.
