Disability Access and Inclusion Plan 2026–2030
The Port Augusta City Council is committed to creating a community where people of all abilities can participate fully in everyday life. Our Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP) 2026–2030 outlines the actions Council will take to improve access, inclusion, and participation for people living with disability, their families, carers, and support networks.
The Plan aligns with Council’s Strategic Directions 2019–2029, particularly Theme 1: Community, which seeks to ensure that people of all ages, cultures, abilities and interests have access to services, facilities and experiences that support their health and wellbeing.
Our commitment
The DAIP is structured around the themes and priority areas of Inclusive SA, the South Australian Government’s disability inclusion framework. Through this Plan, Council will both provide and advocate for fair and equitable access to services, programs, public spaces, information, and facilities.
We recognise that inclusion is about more than physical access. It is about ensuring people with disability can participate, contribute, connect, and belong in all aspects of community life.
Developed with our community
The Plan has been developed through consultation with:
- People living with disability
- Families and carers
- Disability service providers
- Community organisations
- Council officers
- Council volunteers
The feedback received has informed a practical action plan that demonstrates Council’s ongoing commitment to eliminating discrimination and improving inclusion across our city.
Why inclusion matters
Social inclusion is fundamental to a person’s quality of life. When people with disability can access mainstream services, programs, employment, recreation, and community activities, it leads to better outcomes across health, wellbeing, education, social connection, and economic participation.
The DAIP 2026–2030 aims to ensure that people living with disability can:
- Access Council services and information
- Use public spaces and facilities safely and independently
- Participate in community events and activities
- Have their voices heard in Council decision-making
- Feel welcomed, respected, and included
