The Port Augusta Airport is located 3.0 nautical miles on a magnetic bearing of 285° from the City of Port Augusta South Australia. The Port Augusta Airport has a geographic location of S32°30.4’ E137°43.0’.

Airport Location

Port Augusta is a hub for “Fly in Fly out” (FIFO) operations to many mines in the north of the state. Annual passenger numbers are approximately 16,000 per year.

The Airport is owned, operated and maintained by the Port Augusta City Council. The City Council is aware of the importance of the Airport to the Port Augusta community and surrounding region.

Port Augusta Base

RFDS Central Operations’ state-of-the-art Communications Centre is located at Port Augusta, from which our Tasking Coordinators receive emergency calls, plan and assign all retrieval flights from Adelaide, Alice Springs and Port Augusta, whilst providing after-hours back up for the Broken Hill Base (operated by South Eastern Section).

The Port Augusta Base serves an area of 840,000 square kilometres, providing comprehensive health services to people in the far west and northern regions of South Australia. Services include 24-hour emergency retrievals and telehealth consultations, primary healthcare clinics and interhospital transfers.

In addition to our core team of pilots, flight nurses and doctors, our Aboriginal Health Coordinators, Community Health Nurse, Community Mental Health Nurse, together with our Healthy Living Program Coordinator and Lifestyle Trainers, are based in Port Augusta, enabling them to focus on serving people in isolated communities.

Awards

In 2007, The Port Augusta Airport was awarded the winner of the Australian Rural Airport of the year for Aviation Excellence from the Australian Airports Association.

Airport Details

The Airport passenger terminal building is available during FIFO operation times only.

Unsecured and short term car parking is available near the terminal for a maximum of 24 hours.
A secure carpark is available to FIFO staff with purchase of a 12 month pass.

The Runway 15/33 is a sealed 30m wide and 1650m in length with sealed shoulders and a PCN of 21.

The Airport lighting consists of runway, taxiway and apron lighting activated on Pilot Activated Lighting (PAL) frequency 122.8 MHz to provide Airport lighting for 30 minutes only.

The Airport includes a helicopter pad.

Fees and Charges

Airport landing fees and Passenger Numbers exist and are invoiced through AVDATA.

Landing charges for all aircraft is charged as per Council's Fees and Charges.

All fees are subject to change and are reviewed annually in April.

Automatic Weather Station

The automatic weather station for Port Augusta is located to the west of runway15/33. The station is operated and controlled by BOM.

Fuel Suppliers

FLYING FUELS is the sole provider of fuel for the Port Augusta Airport.

Both AVGAS (25,000lts) and JETA1 (55,000lts) are available.

Flying fuels: 24 hour carnet card and credit card swipe bowsers are available for AVGAS and JETA1.
