Ryan Mitchell joins the 2025 SA Masters Games as Ambassador

Port Augusta’s ex-resident Olympic silver medallist, Ryan Mitchell, has been named Ambassador for the 2025 South Australian Masters Games, bringing his passion for sport and community back to where it all began.

Ryan’s swimming career started right here in Port Augusta, and his incredible journey saw him represent Australia on the world stage, earning a silver medal in the 4×100-metre medley relay at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Today, the Ryan Mitchell Swim Centre stands as a proud reminder of his achievements.

Reflecting on his new role, Ryan shared "I have so many fond memories of participating in and watching family and friends at the sporting facilities, grounds, and stadiums of Port Augusta. Ryan also spoke about how sport brings people together "Sport is a great melting pot of our community. It attracts people from all walks of life, and once the whistle blows, we are united in the spirit of competition and fair play. I am really looking forward to seeing Port Augusta come to life as host of the Masters Games and play a part in celebrating the city where my sporting career began.”

The 2025 SA Masters Games will showcase more than 20 sporting events, attracting athletes and visitors from across South Australia and beyond. Ryan’s appointment as Ambassador highlights Port Augusta’s pride in its sporting heritage and the strong sense of community that defines our city.
