Paint Port Augusta REaD
On Thursday 4th February 2021 at 10am the Port Augusta Early Childhood Network will be holding a combined playgroup at the Eastside Foreshore and launching the program Paint Port Augusta REaD.
Paint the town REaD is a nationwide early literacy community program that encourages the whole community to read, talk, sing and play with children from birth, to help develop the skills they will need for reading and writing.
The program will feature a VERY special egg, which will need to be found at the playgroup and then nurtured with plenty of reading, rhyming and singing. The egg will visit local kindergartens, childcare centres and community events and once it grows to its full size, a mystery mascot will emerge at a Reading Day event later in the year.
“The first three years of life are important for a child’s brain development. From birth, each time you read, talk, sing, hug and play with a baby, new brain connections are formed and strengthened. These daily activities lay the foundation for language development, reading and emotional wellbeing”. Stated Marie Trezise, Community Librarian from Port Augusta Public Library
The program is funded by the Australian Government Department of Social Services /Port Augusta UCSA, Communities for Children and supported by Port Augusta Public Library and Port Augusta Early Childhood Network.
For information about the program, contact Marie at the Port Augusta Public Library on 86419151 or visit the Paint the Town REaD website www.paintthetownread.info
