The Port Augusta City Council is pleased to announce the completion of significant improvements to Taxiway Bravo at the Port Augusta Airport. A taxiway connects runways with aprons, hangars, terminals, and other facilities at the airport.

This project, aimed at enhancing safety and improving aircraft movements in all weather, was made possible through grant funding from Rounds 2 and 3 from the Australian Government. Round 2 of the program funded 50% of the cost to install new edge lighting to the then unsealed Taxiway Bravo, and upgrading the edge lighting on the Runway and on Taxiway Alpha. Round 3 of the program funded 50% of the pavement, sealing, and shoulder works. The LED lights are brighter and have a much longer life than the previous lamps, enhancing safety and reducing maintenance.

Previously, Taxiway Bravo was primarily used by smaller aircraft during the day including those operated by the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS). Taxiway Bravo now facilitates 24-hour movement of all aircraft to and from the runway from the apron, ensuring smoother, safer and more efficient airport operations.

The upgraded Taxiway Bravo was reopened 24 June 2024.

“These improvements are a significant upgrade to the airport operational infrastructure, ensuring that the Port Augusta Airport continues to meet the needs of the community and support critical services like the RFDS.” Mayor Shine stated.

“Council would like to thank the Regional Airport Program for funding 50% of these important works.”
