Port Augusta Place Naming Community Consultation
The Port Augusta City Council is undertaking a public consultation and engagement process to seek community input and feedback on place naming proposals for the two Eastside Pontoons and the Mackay Street Reserve, which have not yet been formally named.
Eastside Pontoons
Council is seeking suggestions for both European and Barngarla names for the two Eastside Pontoons:
Former T-Jetty / Mill Jetty
Yacht Club Boat Dock
The Barngarla Determination Aboriginal Corporation will be consulted on any proposed Barngarla names.
Mackay Street Reserve
The Barngarla Determination Aboriginal Corporation has proposed the name Yarada Mardinidhi (meaning “to fly, to heal”) for the Mackay Street Reserve.
Council has endorsed this proposal and is now seeking community feedback.
Both the Rotary Club of Port Augusta and the Royal Flying Doctor Service SA/NT support the proposed Barngarla name.
