Great Western Bridge Timber Repurposing
The Port Augusta City Council established the Great Western Bridge Timbers Advisory Group to determine appropriate criteria for the repurposing of the timbers and to assess expressions of interest that are received from the community for use of the timbers, as well as to contribute thoughts and ideas to Council of how the timbers can be repurposed for use in Council projects.
Council is now inviting members of the community to have their say on how the timbers can be repurposed for use in Council projects.
Please note this survey is only for the repurposing of the timbers in Council projects for the benefit of the community as a whole. A separate expression of interest process is being undertaken for community groups seeking provision of timbers to repurpose for their own benefit.
It is a requirement of the Department for Infrastructure and Transport that the recycled timber may ONLY be used in an outdoor setting and may NOT be used where there is frequent and/or intimate contact i.e. indoor furniture, children’s toys, chopping boards, tabletops, bench seats or wetland infrastructure.
Following the public consultation process, the submissions will be presented to Council’s Great Western Bridge Timbers Advisory Group.
For all enquiries please contact Melissa Kretschmer, Director City Services at the Port Augusta City Council on phone: 8641 9100 or email: admin@portaugusta.sa.gov.au
A survey is available for you to complete on Council’s website and hardcopies are available in the foyer of the Port Augusta Council Civic Centre, 4 Mackay Street, Port Augusta SA 5700.
To submit a response, please complete and lodge the survey by 5pm Friday 31 July 2026 at the Port Augusta Council Civic Centre, 4 Mackay Street, Port Augusta SA 5700 or by email to admin@portaugusta.sa.gov.au.
Please note that details of submissions may be included in a report within Council’s public agenda and copies of all submissions may be provided to Elected Members for perusal.
