Environmental Impact Statement for the Northern Water project
What's being decided?
The Northern Water project seeks to provide a secure, climate resilient water source for industry in South Australia’s Upper Spencer Gulf and Far North.
The project includes the construction and operation of a largescale seawater reverse osmosis desalination plant located at Mullaquana Station, approximately 25 kilometres south of Whyalla, along with a transfer system of approximately 360km north from the desalination plant to Olympic Dam, with an off-take branch line to Carrapateena Mine Site (approximately 46km). Ancillary works include electricity transmission lines, new and upgraded substations, telecommunications infrastructure, and temporary construction activities.
We are seeking your feedback about the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). The EIS explores the potential environmental, social and economic impacts of the project.
Your feedback will help inform understanding of community perspectives of the project and will be considered through the assessment and decision-making process.
