Draft Revised Community Land Management Plans

Community consultation closed.

The Port Augusta City Council has undertaken a review of its Community Land Management Plans and is undertaking a Public Consultation and Engagement process to seek community endorsement for the adoption of the revised Plans.

Council has not undertaken a public consultation process for the Community Land Management Plans since 2016. As the amendments made to the Plans since this time were deemed to not have a significant impact on the interests of the community, there was no necessity to hold a public consultation. During each annual review of the Plans, minor amendments are made to include the renewed dates of leases/licences/permits over community land and updates of site plans and maps.

On 11 May 2021, Council resolved to undertake a Public Consultation and Engagement process to revoke the ‘Community Land’ classification applicable to the following parcels of Land:

  • Allotment 1, CR 6195/405 known as the buffer land between the Port Augusta Golf Club course and Bentley’s Cabin Park – to allow Council to return the land to the Crown, hence, allowing the Crown as it sees fit, to enter their own negotiations with the Developer of Bentley’s Cabin Park for the sale of the land; and
  • Section 187 CT 5189/561, Section 194 CT 5189/560, Section 196 CT 5189/290 and Section 199 CT 5189/562, identified as undeveloped community land situated within Bird Lake – to ensure consistency of all land status for the Bird Lake area. In this instance, there is no need for the land to be classified as community land, as the land cannot be accessed or used for community purposes, as it is an environmental conservation zone.

As Council is seeking community endorsement for the Plans as a whole, I note that Council has also resolved to implement the following changes to the Plans since its adoption in 2016:

  • A portion of CT5956/237 was acquired by DPTI for the Joy Baluch AM Bridge duplication;
  • The community land status was revoked for CR5754/546 Nerrilda Nursing Home;
  • The community land status was revoked for CT5614/981 Julia Lodge Accommodation;
  • CT5565/903 Keith Jones Memorial Park was sub-divided and remains as ‘Neighbourhood’ Category Land; and
  • CT6100/44 closed section of road within the Port Augusta Gun Club grounds was classified as Community Land.
