Eastside Pontoon

Pontoon Construction

Port Augusta locals and visitors can look forward to fun in the water at the Eastern Foreshore with the construction of a new Eastside Jetty and Swimming Pontoon to start soon.

The South Australian Government is funding the construction of the jetty and pontoon to be constructed to the south side of the Joy Baluch AM Bridge.

The former T-jetty was demolished in 2019, following an investigation that found that the timber piles of the 1881-built structure were severely deteriorated and could not be cost-effectively repaired.

The new structure will feature a 35-metre pier, then a 20-metre gangway to the 22-metre floating platform. Four ladders to allow easy access to and from the water.

Construction is expected to be complete within 6 weeks of starting. The contractor will be storing the piles and other materials at the Carpenter Landing carpark to be loaded onto the barge that will drive the piles and place the bridge elements.
